This course will discuss how the current palm grading process differs from prior versions, in concept and content. There will be a review of the definitions of the grading criteria and their relevance to the process, an evaluation of a palm and assignment of grades, followed by a discussion about the distinction between grading and specifying palms. This course will review specifiers terms, their definitions and how they might be used. This session will be interspersed with opportunities for question and answers during the presentation.

This course is will provide 2 Continuing Education Credits.

Meet The Speakers:

John Conroy is President, founder, and owner of Fish Branch Tree Farm, Inc.

Fish Branch has sponsored and hosted many educational events that have covered a wide range of topics. He chaired the committee for the last two revisions of Florida’s Grades & Standards for Palms. John has also presented at many industry venues on various topics relating to palms. He was awarded the 2019 Educator of the Year by FNGLA.

John obtained both a B.S. and M.S. degree in Education from Florida State University. In the 1970’s and 1980’s he owned garden centers with landscaping, irrigation and sod operations. John founded Fish Branch Tree Farm in 1988, which has grown to 325 acres, located in Southwest Florida. Over the years John has sought to develop innovative production methods and has promoted new or under-utilized trees. He owns the plant patents to Boardwalk® and Park Side® live oaks. Recently, John played a key role in the establishment of a committee formed to review and refine a broad range of issues facing Florida’s Department of Transportation’s landscape program.

John has a continuing passion for sharing knowledge with others for the betterment and growth of the industry.
